5 Hair-care & styling mistakes you’re probably making
When it comes to hair, we don’t believe in right or wrong. Every hair is awesome, it just needs a little help to get there.
Amika’s hair pros are here to offer advice on some of the most common mistakes they meet in hair care staples and styling product routines. Ready to take your hair game from okay to super-slay?
Texture sprays
We love a good texture, but frequent usage might create build-up on your roots and scalp. A common mistake is using texture products without detoxing properly – So make sure you keep a clear head, and use one of our detox products as a part of your regular cleansing routine.
Another mistake is using sprays that contain actual salt – Don’t take the beach look too literally, avoid salt that can lead to dryness and color damage, especially in chemically treated hair.

Masks
A beloved mask is like a tall glass of water (or an ice-cold slushie, we don’t judge) on a hot summer day – Your hair will just drink it up. If your hair is bleached, processed or just really dry and damaged, just leaving the mask on is not really enough. To make sure your hair thoroughly absorbs all of the delicious nutrients, and really makes the most of the mask, try blowdrying it with positive ion setting on either medium or high heat. This will open the cuticle and allow the treatment to penetrate deeper and repair better.

Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is our go-to product for second (or third, or… you know) day hair that is still looking fresh and voluminous. Just make sure you use it right – Don’t spray too close to your scalp, but rather from a good 15 cm distance to make sure you’re getting an even and light coverage. Let it dry thoroughly before you brush or shake it off.

Shampoo
Don’t shampoo too quickly! The shampoo can’t really get into full effect and doesn’t clean enough if you don’t give it at least a couple of minutes.
Take the time to massage the scalp, let the shampoo work and break down the dirt and buildup, leave it on the base of your hair after lathering.

Heat Defense Serum
The most common mistake is simply not using it, or not using it *after* styling too. Defense serums protect hair not only from styling heat but also from environmental damage, harmful UV rays, blue light and general pollution. Using them regularly helps create an overall healthier hair from the inside out.
