They say wearing makeup is like wearing a mask, it makes you look 10x better than you actually are. But what if you are LITERALLY wearing a mask, yep a surgical mask, how to make yourself look fly when you have half of your face covered? We have come up with a few useful tips to make wearing masks great again. We have tried them on ourselves, and got a lot of compliments, here’s how:
Keep it Clean

The golden rule of looking fresh and not sick when you wear a mask is to keep your appearance neat and clean. We know since you’re spending most of your time at home nowadays and probably won’t be motivated to wash your hair as often. But every time you go out, you deserve to look your best, and having greasy hair and dandruff down your shoulders won’t help. To keep your hair squeaky clean and healthy, use Day By Day Clarifying Shampoo and Weightless Conditioner for every wash. For remedy to reduce dandruff, detox your scalp at least once a week with using Reset Clarifying Gel Shampoo and Cooling Gel Conditioner.
Make your Eyes Makeup Pop

When you wear a mask, all of your facial features are covered except your eyes. Luckily, our eyes are the most expressive parts on our faces, so beautifying your eyes makes all the difference to your whole aura. To get rid of the sick look, simply wear more eye makeup than you usually do. Applying eyeliners is a MUST, believe us, having eyelines make your eyes so much more lively. Makeup color matters too, use a vibrant color, like peach, orange, bright pink, or even go bold with electric blue can make your eyes pop.
Hair will Tell
Even if you don’t wear any makeup, it might not be obvious you skip your beauty routine since you’ll be covered with a mask. BUT your hair is a dead giveaway. Making sure your hair looks good is a shortcut to achieving that Korean star in mask airport look. Therefore, even if you’re not wearing makeup, always style your hair before going out. If you have long/medium hair, get the wavy look with a Digital Titanium Styler. For short hair, create a textured lob with Mighty Minis Styler and Surfer Chic Texture Spray. Going for a straight look? Use iRED Flash Fix Straightening Brush for a quick fix and Silken Up Dry Conditioner to de-frizz and add gloss.
Replace Foundation with CC Cream

Breathing through a mask can be tricky on our skin as moisture will be trapped in it, causing foundation to smudge and melt. Compounded with our sebum secretion and sweat, this can even cultivate bacterial growth in our clogged pores, resulting in breakouts. Instead of using foundation with good concealing properties, use CC cream to color correct your complexion. CC cream is lighter and will not stain your mask as heavily as thicker foundation. We love this Daily Correct CC Cream from SUPERGOOP!, it double acts as your daily SPF too.
The Smize
One important lesson we learnt from super model and host of American Next Top Model, Tyra Banks, is the power of the smize – aka smiling with your eyes. People might not be able to see your mouth, but they know if you smile by your eyes. If there’s one thing more infectious than COVID-19, it’s our smiles. Studies have shown that people who smile are found to be more attractive than those who do not.
Wearing a mask is becoming the norm in days like these but at least we know how to look good with it now!
